How it works

- 4. You attend the High Commission once. We track the passport to your door.
What you must do in person: First-time applicants must attend in person at Nigeria High Commission, 9 Northumberland Avenue, London WC2N 5BX (submissions 9:00am to 1:00pm). The contactless route is not available for first issue.
Your passport is dispatched within 10 working days, or we refund our coordination fee.
The High Commission's current passport pages do not state a processing time. Our guarantee sets one for coordinated cases, on the terms below.
How it is counted: The clock starts on the working day after your documents are complete and your coordination fee is paid, and stops on the day your new passport is dispatched to you. The period is no more than ten working days. When we quote, we confirm in writing that your case qualifies; the rare cases that cannot be done in ten days by anyone (for example where a document must first be obtained from Nigeria) are told so before you pay anything.
If we miss it: If we miss it, we refund your coordination fee in full. Official fees paid to the Nigeria Immigration Service or the High Commission are outside our control and are not refundable by us.
The guarantee does not cover delays caused by:
- Documents that turn out to be incomplete or incorrect, or information that is inaccurate.
- A NIN that does not match your passport details and was not corrected first (we check this before you pay).
- An appointment missed or rescheduled on your side.
- An official system outage, suspension or policy change announced by the Nigeria Immigration Service or the High Commission.
- A case we told you in writing at quote stage falls outside the guarantee, for example where a document must first be obtained from Nigeria.

Can a British citizen get a Nigerian passport?
If you were born outside Nigeria with at least one Nigerian parent, you are a Nigerian citizen by birth, so yes. Nigeria permits dual citizenship for citizens by birth. You will need to prove your Nigerian parentage.
Can I do a first issue through the contactless app?
No. Contactless is for adult renewals only. First issue is in person at the High Commission.
What if I have no Nigerian birth certificate?
The High Commission's forms include a statutory declaration of age for people whose birth was never registered. Tell us before you pay anything and we confirm exactly what will be accepted in your case.
