Doing it yourself

You pay only the official fees ($150 or $230 to the NIS, exclusive of bank charges, which NIS quotes as $162 or $242 payable, plus £20 to the High Commission for a renewal). You create the application on the NIS portal, book your own biometric slot, assemble the documents, and attend. Adults renewing may use the optional contactless route through the NIS Mobile app, which carries an extra $100 NIS processing fee. It is entirely doable, and if your case is a straightforward adult renewal with a matching NIN and no time pressure, you may not need anyone.

Where people get stuck, in our experience and in the public record:

• NIN details that do not match the passport, which blocks the application until corrected.
• Appointment slots months away, and not knowing about the occasional intervention exercises that add capacity.
• Arriving without the Special Delivery C4 envelope or the right postal order, and being turned away.
• Children's applications: the consent letter, both parents' documents, and the fact that minors cannot use contactless.
• Lost passports: the police report, a guarantor form that must be sworn beforehand before a commissioner for oaths or similar, and outdated fee figures online.
• Portal and app faults: payment OTPs not arriving, fingerprint capture failing.

Having it coordinated

You still pay the official fees to the government yourself. On top, you pay a coordination fee (from £300 for passports), which we quote to you in writing with your appointment date before you pay a penny. For that, we find out exactly what your case needs, check every document against the current requirements, have our vetted UK-based agent prepare and submit the application and book the slot, brief you the day before, and track the document to your door. The aim is that you attend once and the application is accepted at that appointment. Our agent is not authorised or recognised by the NIS or the High Commission, and you pay every official passport fee yourself.

For passport applications we also offer a turnaround guarantee: Your passport is dispatched within 10 working days, or we refund our coordination fee. The High Commission's current passport pages do not state a processing time.

How to avoid being scammed

On 4 May 2026 the Nigeria Immigration Service said it has never partnered with or authorised any private entity or individual to act as an intermediary on its behalf, and that its official portal is the only authorised platform for passport applications and payments. In May 2025 it warned the public against agents claiming to process e-visas. On 11 September 2026 the High Commission told the public to disregard information not communicated through its authorised channels. In 2021 the High Commission reported that 18 Nigerians in the UK had paid racketeers £200 to £350 for forged documents and a promised place on a non-existent "Abuja list". NIMC has publicly named at least one London operator as not licensed to enrol NINs. So:

• Never pay an official passport fee to anyone except the NIS portal or the High Commission. For a NIN, pay only through the website of a NIMC-licensed partner listed on nimc.gov.ng.
• Never pay a service fee before you have a written quote and a confirmed appointment date.
• Check the company: a registered UK company number should be visible on the website, and you can look it up on Companies House.
• Biometrics must be captured from you in person. NIS has said it has not authorised any private intermediary, so treat any offer of an earlier or guaranteed appointment through a third party with caution.
• For NIN, only NIMC-licensed partners can enrol you. Check the company name against the partner list on nimc.gov.ng; an address alone proves nothing.

Outside London

There is no Nigerian consulate in Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow or Leeds; biometrics for a passport are in London (and in other cities only during occasional intervention exercises). NIN enrolment, however, happens at NIMC-licensed centres in several UK cities, and many people can now get a BVN online through the NRBVN platform without attending anywhere.
