Nigerian Passport Renewal in Manchester (2026)

By Nigerian Docs UK · Facts last verified against official sources on 2 October 2026

Summary

There is no Nigerian consulate in Manchester. Passport biometrics are normally taken at the Nigeria High Commission in London, although eligible adults can renew through the NIS contactless route. The Phase 2 passport intervention runs at Nigeria House, 23 Platt Lane, Manchester M14 5NE, from 6 to 30 October 2026, by appointment. When Nigerian Docs UK checked the booking form on 17 October 2026, no Manchester dates were available.

Independent coordination service. Not the Nigeria High Commission, NIS or NIMC. Official fees are paid to the government directly, and you can complete the process yourself using the official portals linked below.

Is there a Nigerian embassy or consulate in Manchester?

Nigeria has no embassy or consulate in Manchester. The UK government's lists of consulates outside London and of honorary consuls, both revised for October 2026, have no Nigerian entry. Nigeria's entry in the London Diplomatic List gives the Nigeria High Commission (often called the Nigerian embassy in London) at Nigeria House, 9 Northumberland Avenue, London WC2N 5BX.

A routine renewal from Manchester or elsewhere in the North West therefore means attending the High Commission in London for biometric capture, where applications are submitted between 9:00am and 1:00pm. The alternatives are an intervention appointment, when a centre is running in Manchester, and contactless renewal for eligible adults.

The 2021 Census recorded 10,329 usual residents of Manchester who were born in Nigeria, out of 551,936, and 29,092 across the North West region. The count is by country of birth, so it excludes children born in the UK to Nigerian parents.

Passport intervention in Manchester: Phase 2, 6 to 30 October 2026

In an intervention exercise, officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) work with the High Commission to capture passport biometrics at temporary venues for a fixed period. The High Commission's homepage notice for Phase 2 of the 2026 Special Passport Intervention Exercise lists Manchester from 6 to 30 October 2026 at Nigeria House, 23 Platt Lane, Manchester M14 5NE, with London, Cardiff and Aberdeen on the same dates.

The Manchester venue shares its name with the High Commission's own building, whose address is Nigeria House, 9 Northumberland Avenue, London. An intervention appointment in Manchester is at 23 Platt Lane, M14 5NE. Follow the address on your appointment slip.

The notice says that all applicants attending the exercise are required to bring the following.

  • The passport application form.
  • The payment receipt for the passport application.
  • A printout of the appointment slip.
  • The old passport booklet, which the notice describes as mandatory for all reissues, renewals and changes of data.
  • A £20 postal order payable to the Nigeria High Commission, or payment through the High Commission's e-payment service.
  • For a lost, misplaced or damaged passport, a £150 postal order payable to the Nigeria High Commission, or e-payment.
  • A prepaid Royal Mail C4 Special Delivery envelope addressed to yourself, for the return of the processed passport.

How to book a Manchester intervention appointment

Bookings are made on the High Commission's Phase 2 form, linked from the notice and separate from the September form. It asks for the Application Number and Reference Number of your passport payment, so the application must already be completed and paid for on the NIS passport portal. You then select Manchester Phase 2 and choose a date and time.

The form's guidelines state that an appointment is valid only for the person named on it, and advise families to register every member, including children. They also warn that an incorrect Application ID or Reference Number, or an attempt to choose two intervention locations or book two separate dates, can invalidate the appointment.

When we checked the form on 2, 5, 7 and 17 October 2026, the Manchester calendar showed no available dates in October. Availability may change, so check the form again, and do not travel to Platt Lane without a confirmed appointment. NIS said during the September phase that applicants with confirmed intervention appointments are assured of service.

The form also links to the High Commission's e-passport requirements, which for a renewal include a copy of your Nigerian NIN (NIMC number) matching your passport details in the correct order.

What happened in Manchester during Phase 1 (September 2026)

Manchester and London were the first two centres to open, on 7 September 2026. The High Commission's notice, as archived on 14 September 2026, listed Manchester from 7 to 21 September at the same Platt Lane address, and London from 7 September to 3 October.

On 11 September NIS announced an extension of the exercise in London and Manchester from 19 September to 3 October 2026, as reported by Nairametrics and Vanguard. The High Commission's notice, as archived three days later, gave 21 September as the end date for Manchester.

On 14 September NIS reported that 2,296 applicants had been enrolled in the first six operational days, 1,709 of them at the Manchester centre and 587 in London, and that passport production and dispatch had started.

Renewing from Manchester without an intervention appointment

The standard route remains available: apply and pay on the NIS passport portal, book a biometric appointment through the NIS appointment portal, and attend 9 Northumberland Avenue between 9:00am and 1:00pm with a £20 UK postal order, a stamped Royal Mail Special Delivery C4 envelope and the other documents on the High Commission's list. There is no collection after biometrics; the passport is posted back to you. Our guide to Nigeria High Commission passport appointments covers the details.

Contactless renewal avoids the journey for eligible adults. The applicant captures their face and fingerprints in the NIS Mobile app, pays NIS a contactless biometric service fee of $100 on top of the passport fee once the biometrics are accepted, and then posts the old passport, the application forms and payment receipt, a £20 postal order (with name and telephone number on the back) and a C4 Special Delivery self-addressed envelope to the High Commission in London. The High Commission says contactless applications are not available to applicants under 18 or to first-time applicants. Our guide to contactless renewal explains the steps.

We work remotely with applicants anywhere in the UK and have no office in Manchester. If you would rather not manage the portal, booking and document checks yourself, we coordinate renewals around one appointment.

Postal orders and Special Delivery postage

Postal orders are sold at Post Office branches and must show the payee's name; the High Commission asks for orders payable to the Nigeria High Commission, London. The Post Office fee is 12.5% of the face value for orders from £10 to £99.99, which is £2.50 on a £20 order, and is capped at £12.50 for orders from £100 to £250, which includes the £150 order for a lost or damaged passport. Postal orders expire six months after issue.

Post Office branches also sell Royal Mail Special Delivery Guaranteed. The published price for delivery by 1pm, Monday to Friday, starts at £9.95 for items up to 100g. The High Commission asks for the C4 envelope to be prepaid and addressed to you, so arrange the postage before you attend.

Nigerian NIN (NIMC number) registration in Manchester

The High Commission's passport requirements include a copy of your Nigerian NIN (National Identification Number), issued by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC). Abroad, enrolment is carried out by partners that NIMC licenses, most of them private companies that charge their own fees. NIMC says that Nigerians abroad can enrol free of charge when they travel to Nigeria with a valid passport, and that a person whose passport has expired must obtain a NIN before renewing it.

NIMC's Find an enrolment centre page, with United Kingdom selected, showed 215 UK entries on 2 October 2026, 17 of them filed under Manchester from ten companies, including some addresses in Salford, Stockport and Rochdale. NIMC also publishes a separate list of active locations for one partner, Ficoven, which had nine UK entries and none in Manchester; its entries in the north of England are in Gateshead and Middlesbrough. The two Manchester addresses that the finder gives for Ficoven do not appear in the Ficoven list.

The table below shows each company and the areas of its offices; NIMC's page gives the full addresses and contact details. We have not confirmed that each office is operating. Contact the company before travelling, and check its name against the licensed partners on NIMC's diaspora page, where two of these companies appear as Seamfix Nigeria Limited and Dantata Universal Services & VF Services. NIMC states that the company operating as NIN London, at 8 Duncannon Street, London, is not licensed to enrol Nigerians in the UK on its behalf. Both of NIMC's location lists include entries at 8 Duncannon Street, so a listed address does not by itself show whether the business operating there enrols under a NIMC licence.

Common problems for Manchester applicants

Each of the following can result in an invalid booking, a missed appointment or a delayed application.

  • Booking on the September form instead of the separate Phase 2 form.
  • Going to the wrong Nigeria House: the Manchester venue is 23 Platt Lane, M14 5NE.
  • Choosing two locations or two dates, which the form says can invalidate the booking.
  • Making one booking for a whole family; each person, including each child, needs their own.
  • Leaving the old passport booklet, the postal order or the prepaid envelope at home.
  • NIN details that do not match the passport in the correct order.
